Welcome to Joe & Vicki's
2001 Vacation to Cancun

The photo above is an aerial view of the Aventura Palace.  We spent a wonderful week at this resort from June 26th thru July 3rd, 2001.  The Aventura is an all-inclusive resort located near the village of Puerto Aventura, where it gets its name.  Puerto Aventura is about an hour south of Cancun in the middle of an area known as the Mayan Riviera.  The closest city is Playa Del Carmen, about 7 or 8 minutes north of the resort.  Playa Del Carmen is the ferry port for the passenger ferry that travels back and forth from the mainland to the island of Cozumel.

As you can see, the Aventura doesn't really have a beach.  The developers dredged out the area behind the coral reef tide wall and created a private lagoon with its own beach.  The lagoon is fed through the inlets on either side of the reef.  While it isn't very deep and contains no live coral formations, it's very pleasant to swim in and because it's not exposed directly to the ocean, there are no waves or undertow to contend with.  Click the link below to see how we spent our summer vacation.
